Ashfall Wanderers

★★★★★ 4.6 Editor rating

Ashfall Wanderers is the kind of RPG you start on a bus ride and then suddenly it's your bedtime. You build a party of four, each with a distinct role, and work through a hand-crafted world where towns remember what you did last time you passed through. The writing is genuinely good, with quests that branch in ways that matter.

Combat is turn-based but brisk, and positioning plays a real role, so you can't just mash attack and win. Gear and skill trees give you room to specialize without drowning you in numbers. On a phone screen the interface stays readable, which is harder to get right than developers make it look.

Our only gripe is the slow opening hour, which spends too long on tutorials. Push past it and there's a rich, generous game underneath.
